Dr Anthony Chun Yin, Yuen participated in the 1st Symposium of Advanced Functional Polymers and Flame-retardant Materials (SAFE2026), Bratislava, Slovakia, as an invited speaker. He received the Young Scientist Oral Award (1st prize). The conference was hosted inside Smolenice Castle by Prof De-Yi Wang and his team.

Dr Yuen's presentation entitled "An Integrated Computational Materials Synthesis Framework for Characterising Flame Retardant Mechanisms in Building Polymers" provided some insight into upcycling waste materials to 2D carbon-based flame-retardant additives assisted by reactive molecular dynamics (ReaxFF-MD) realisation of the Flash Joule Heating (FJH) ultrafast thermal treatment process.
